Our final year students were given the opportunity to explore three distinct possibilities and avenues they can pursue in the near future. Throughout this academic year, Class X students will have access to seminars, resources and experts who will guide them and answer pertinent questions regarding “next steps” when it comes to further studies and careers.
Here’s a summary of three key workshops that were held this month:
Opportunities in the Merchant Navy
An insightful workshop on opportunities in the Merchant Navy and the maritime industry was held for the students of Class X. It was conducted in collaboration with GMOA – Goa, an organisation comprising deck officers and marine engineers. The school was privileged to welcome experienced maritime professionals Deepak Souza, and Desmond Fernandes as resource persons. Souza, who has been sailing on chemical tankers since 2001 and is presently serving as a Chief Engineer, shared valuable insights from his extensive experience at sea. Fernandes shared his experience as a Technical Superintendent and Chief Engineer, spanning over two decades of experience in the Merchant Navy.Through their personal experiences and professional journeys, the speakers gave students a realistic understanding of life at sea, the responsibilities of marine professionals, educational pathways, career opportunities and the importance of discipline, technical skills, perseverance and continuous learning.
Opportunities in the Indian Navy
A special workshop titled ‘Career Opportunities in the Indian Navy’ was also organised for the students of Class X this month. The programme was conducted as part of the Goa Naval Area Outreach Programme, with the objective of creating awareness among students and motivating them to explore opportunities in the Armed Forces.
The school was honoured to welcome Commander Pradeep Kumar, along with Lieutenant Commander Akansha Singh and Petty Officer Air Electrical Rajkishore Pradhan, as resource persons for the session.
Commander Pradeep Kumar, who has served in the Indian Navy for over 25 years, shared insights from his distinguished career in the Naval Aviation Cadre. His personal journey, from a modest rural background to becoming a commissioned officer, was particularly inspiring and highlighted the importance of determination, perseverance, academic development and professional excellence.
An interactive Career Guidance Session was conducted by Ryan Pinto, Proprietor of Knowledge Valley, which provides guidance and coaching for competitive government examinations such as UPSC and MPSC.
Pinto, who also serves as the National Coordinator for Civil Services of the All India Catholic Union (AICU) and as a resource person for the Bombay Catholic Sabha Academy for Civil Services Training (BCSACT), introduced students to various opportunities available through competitive examinations and government services.
Through an engaging and interactive session, students gained a clearer understanding of the differences between government and private-sector careers, including their respective pathways, opportunities and preparation requirements.
