On India’s 80th Independence Day, Don Bosco High School, Panjim, presented a message of uniting generations towards a common goal of lifelong learning and responsible citizenship. The programme commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, Dr. Anthony Viegas, Dean of the Department of Earth Sciences, Goa University, who was escorted by the NCC Cadet Corps.
It was followed by the school choir leading all in singing Vande Mataram and the National Anthem, after which the NCC Cadet Corps took a solemn oath, reaffirming their commitment to discipline and service.
The dignitaries then proceeded to the Oratory Hall for a cultural programme that highlighted the theme of bridging the old and new generations. Through a creative blend of drama, dance and technology, the presentation demonstrated how tradition and technology can complement each other, allowing generations to learn from one another and contribute towards a stronger nation.
At the end, Dr. Viegas addressed the students, reminding them that they are the future of the country. He encouraged them to develop diverse skills that would prepare them for better opportunities and enable them to serve the nation effectively. He also urged them to cultivate the habit of reading and cautioned against using Artificial Intelligence merely for convenience, as overdependence could hinder creativity, independent thinking and the development of knowledge and skills.
The celebration concluded with a renewed message of patriotism, inspiring students to contribute meaningfully to the future of a stronger and progressive India.
